In 2020, I purchased 70 acres in Oklahoma that is full of game and has two 2 acre stocked ponds. I always carry a handgun with me while I am out and about for targets of opportunity. While I was out the property doing my normal daily activities such as fishing, hunting, property maintenance, or just riding around on the side by side, I started noticing that my handgun would oftentimes get in the way of what I was doing. If it wasn’t getting in the way, it would just start to get uncomfortable on my hip. So I started looking for an alternative way to carrying a gun on my waist.
I have a custom leather chest rig that fits my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite. I wear this holster while hunting Prairie Dogs on the Spur Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming. I absolutely love this set-up. The only problem is that it only holds that one particular pistol. I wanted one that would fit my Glock 19 9mm, Glock 44 .22 cal. and hopefully my Glock 30s .45 ACP. I did some research on chest rig holsters and ended up buying “The Chest Rig” from Crossbreed Holsters. I have bought holsters from Crossbreed before and have even written about them. I know they make good quality, dependable holsters.
I decided to go with a holster that would fit my Glock 19 equipped with a Streamlight TLR1-HL. I emailed Crossbreed to see if the G19 chest rig would fit the G30s due to it having a slightly wider and shorter slide. Crossbreed claims it does not fit the G30s. This is to be expected since the holster is specifically made to the specs of the G19, but I still hoped we might get lucky. A couple of the reasons I went with the Crossbreed chest rig was because it came with a leather backer and a Kydex holster equipped with a retention device installed under the trigger guard and retention screws that tighten the holster to the leather backer. Was it a gamble on my part, sure; but I knew it would work for those other two Glocks regardless.
When the chest rig arrived, the first thing I did after unboxing it was to check the fitment of my G30s, G19 and G44. The holster fit the G19 and G44 like a glove. The G30s was slightly tighter. I adjusted the retention screws a little and it fit perfectly.
I am not going to go into all the specifications of the The Chest Rig holster because you can find what you need on the Crossbreed website. I will tell you that I absolutely love this holster and honestly believe you will have a hard time finding a better holster for the money. The straps on the chest rig were easy to adjust and feel extremely durable. The buckles were heavy-duty and snapped in with ease. The suede backing on the leather makes the chest rig very comfortable to wear. The Kydex was molded perfectly to fit my Glock 19 equipped with the Streamlight TLR-1HL. I was able to adjust the retention on the chest rig where it was set just right for my daily activities.
