Get a Better Grip!  Talon Grips

Posted on 11/24/202211/24/2022 by John Russo

I have been using Talon Grips for over ten years after I first met them at a gun industry event. The company was founded by a law enforcement officer who was also a competitive shooter and armorer. This was a hell of a coincidence since I also held these same titles. Cops have always tried to find ways to get a better grip on their handguns. I have seen all kinds of homemade grips from stacks of rubber bands wrapped around the grip to aggressive texturing done at home with a rotary tool. Talon Grips found a way to do it right and at an extremely affordable price.

The Talon Grips are custom cut for a perfect fit on your gun. It sure beats the old skateboard tape we used on SWAT back in the day!

It was common protocol in the ’90s for us SWAT guys to use skateboard tape on our guns. I remember having to buy a three foot sheet of it just to get a small piece for my pistol. It worked ok but it was thick and not exactly made for guns. Talon Grips are 100% USA made and are just .5 millimeters thick. They come in various colors and textures including rubber and granulated. I personally like the rubber for a concealed carry gun and the granulated for my competition guns.

Talon Grips’ latest product is their Slide Grip. These applications go on the slide to give you a better purchase when racking the gun. I have been teaching firearms for over 25 years and this addresses a common problem encountered with some shooters. Though I have used Talon Grips for years, I didn’t think I would get much use out of the Slide Grip. Boy, was I wrong! These things are great. They really work and allow you to grip the slide with less force to achieve the same results.

This is a standard slide grip for a Glock double stack.

I had the opportunity to try Slide Grips on a couple Glocks, a Sig 365, a Ruger 57 and a Springfield Armory Hellcat. The Slide Grip works great on all guns but it really shines on the small ones. These little guns have less area to hang on to and are often more difficult to manipulate. With the Slide Grip installed, the shooter definitely has more control. If you follow the installation instructions, which are not difficult, the application is easy and the grips will last a long time. The fit is amazing and I think it adds to the gun’s look.

Check out the Talon Grips website to see all the different products they offer. Not only do they have grips for a ton of different guns, they even make gun cleaning products. Take a look at the Talon Snap system which has a unique and patented new quick connect system for rod tips. Also, you have to click on the Additional Grips section to see all the cool grips for your non-gun items!
